Dr. Sarah Barlow is currently Vice Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs at Baton Rouge Community College. For over 10 years Dr. Barlow has served BRCC in roles in both Academic and Student Affairs, most recently serving as the Interim Vice Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs.
After earning her BA and MA in English from the University of Toledo in Toledo OH, Dr. Barlow moved to Louisiana to continue her education at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. There she taught classes and focused on studies in Creative Writing, Composition Theory, Women’s literature, and American literature, and earned her Ph.D. in English in 2010. She began teaching full-time at Baton Rouge Community College that fall. As a faculty member, Dr. Barlow became the chair of the Faculty Senate Assessment Committee, a Faculty Senator, a General Education Committee Member, and a Faculty Mentor.
In 2014, Dr. Barlow became Chair of the English and Humanities Department where she served 40 full-time and adjunct faculty in multiple disciplines. In addition to creating the schedule of courses, observing and evaluating faculty, participating in program review and course assessment planning, assisting with curriculum development and articulation planning, addressing student concerns, and resolving conflict, she developed and co-chaired a New Student Orientation Model, multiple open house and advising events, and collaborated with enrollment services, advising and financial aid to enhance communication between units.
Brenna Benson Lamb leads strategy and operations for the Foundation. She has served in a variety of capacities and leadership roles including as the Chief Operating Officer of New Schools for Baton Rouge, Chief Information Officer for KIPP New Orleans Schools, and as a consultant with McKinsey & Company.
Dr. Wade is a native and current resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She currently serves as Assistant Chief Administrative Officer for the EBR Office of Mayor-President. Dr. Wade is a licensed educator and has served as a founding Dean and Adjunct Professor. She has taught at every level of the education spectrum from kindergarten to doctoral degree.
With over 10 years experience in the banking industry, Mr. Anderson brings a wealth of knowledge on banking relationships and financial services to the board. Levar currently serves as Vice President-Business Relationship Manager III at JPMorgan Chase Bank.
Dr. Slan was educated in the EBR Public School System and has worked in education for over 40 years. She has been an elementary teacher, district curriculum supervisor, and district superintendent. Dr. Slan currently serves as a facilitator of the Instructional Leadership Program for the EBR School System. Dr. Slan is a founding GEO Board member.
Lt. McGarner is a Lieutenant and Assistant Uniform Patrol Commander for the Baton Rouge Police Department, where he has served since 1989. Lt. McGarner is a graduate of Lee High School and also served as a Communication Private for the U.S. Army. Lt McGarner is extremely active in the community and volunteers in local schools.
Ms. Johnson is a native of Baton Rouge and a Southern University graduate with a degree in microbiology and minors in math and chemistry. A former Chair of the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, Linda now serves as the GEO Academies EBR School Board President. She has been the most important catalyst in the organization’s development and has helped GEO Prep Academy and, recently, GEO Prep Mid City become high demand community charter schools among families and educators in Baton Rouge.
